“Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.” Matthew 8:24
Many of us are familiar with this Bible story and can deeply identify with it. 🧐 How many times in your business have you felt like the storms are surrounding you, the waves are crashing on top of you, and you feel like God is sleeping on the job? 🙍♀️
Of course we KNOW that's not true. We KNOW that God has plans for us and our business –– big plans! 🤩 –– but sometimes it's hard to believe that in our hearts. How can we combat this fear and doubt?
"The disciples went and woke him, saying, 'Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”" Matthew 8:25
The simplest way to kick fear and doubt to he curb is to surround yourself with the truth. 📖 Some truths are hard to swallow 🤢 and some can bring on a sigh of relief. For example:
The truth is that God placed this business on your heart. (Ephesians 2:10)
The truth is God is going to use your business to bring Him glory. (Psalm 115:1)
The truth is we live and work in a fallen world so things don't always work out the way we want them to. (1 Peter 4:12)
The truth is we're all sinners and sometimes that means people ghost us, don't pay their invoices, say rude things to us, etc. (Mark 7:20-23)
The truth is we worship a God of new beginnings and His mercies are new every morning. (Lamentations 3:22-23)
The truth is that God is ALWAYS with us and He's never actually sleeping on he job. (Matthew 28:20)
The truth is we can always come to Him when we feel the clouds rolling in over our heads. (Matter 11:28-30)
Some truths make us warm and fuzzy 😻 and some make us cringe 😬, but when we can envelop ourselves in what is actually true –– 🙅♀️ not what we fear –– we can move forward with deep confidence in the Lord and, consequently, our businesses.
"He replied, 'You of little faith, why are you so afraid?' Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm." Matthew 8:26
Now that you're rooted in the truth of the situation, what can you do next? Here's some ideas! 👇
Go to the Lord in prayer. 🙏 This is the first step in any situation. Be still before Him. Know that He is God. Believe that He is listening.👂 Believe that He will answer your prayers. Have faith that He is with you and is taking care of everything.
Put policies and procedures in place. ✍️ If you feel like people are taking advantage of you, not acting out of integrity, not being someone you want to work with 😖, it's time to make sure you have policies in place that protect you. You don't have to work with people that aren't a good fit for you and your business, but legally it's best to have something written down in a contract, FAQ, membership agreement, etc. that safeguards you and your business.
Let go of some responsibilities. 🤝 It is HARD allowing someone else into your business to do things that you've been doing the whole time, but sometimes it is necessary for you to grow. 🌱 You can't do everything, all the time, and get to where you want to go without risking some burnout. There are people out there who LOVE 😍 doing the tasks and business activities you don't like doing. They WANT to schedule your social media posts, write your emails 👩💻, handle your accounting. Invite these people into your business, allow them to do what they do best so that YOU can spend more time doing what YOU do best!
