Having a gratitude attitude šŸ„°

Gratitude (noun): a strong feeling of appreciation to something or for someone, for what a person has done.

It's that time of the year! The time of the year where we focus more on the importance of giving thanks and the power of gratitude. šŸ¤— We are thankful for our families, thankful for our friends, thankful for the roof over our head, the food on our table and clothes to wear. Let us not forget to be extremely grateful for our businesses and the clients that allow us to do what we love. šŸ„°

The practice of gratitude plays a crucial role in our lives and can also help us to thrive being more productive as a coach and small business entrepreneur. šŸ™Œ In general, being grateful for our team members, our customers and vendors can increase our happiness, improve our mood, help us feel more connected to others and make us more motivated to do a job well done. šŸ‘

Gratitude can go hand in hand with the act of giving recognition to others. šŸ¤© When we take the time to recognize someone, it will make us feel more appreciative and even inspire that person to give the feeling to someone else. šŸ’ƒ This in turn will lead to a surge in happiness, overall well-being, positive energy and engagement - all which directly influence our work performance, productivity and retention.

The more gratitude goes around, the more genuine relationships will flourish, grow and more valuable connections are made. šŸ‘ We often underestimate the impact of showing gratitude to others. The act of expressing gratitude makes us humble and authentic. Gratitude changes the giver, not just the receiver. šŸ¤

Here are 5 Quick Ways to Practice More Gratitude in Your Business:

  1. When you first wake up, remind yourself how blessed you are to be a coach and that you are getting to change people's lives in a positive way daily.

  2. At meal times, pray over your food and also how thankful you are that your business provides the means to purchase healthy good food for your body.

  3. Do a random act of kindness for one of your clients, maybe they are struggling with something and you send a quick thoughtful note to them in the mail or recognize them in your group or page.

  4. Leave some post-it notes around your office or workspace that have things you're thankful for as a coach and in your business.

  5. Take time before bed to journal what was great about the day being a coach - maybe one of your clients hit a big goal or you were able to help someone past an obstacle.

Gratitude is so good because...

- It increases our empathy and compassion šŸ˜‡

When we become more thankful and increase grateful feelings, the more likely we are to act compassionately toward others. Then when doing so, we may also cause others to feel appreciative and set up a cascade effect of empathy.

Coach business example: When you are dealing with a struggling client, take a deep breath, be thankful for them and show them understanding & compassion.

- Lessens anxiety and depression symptoms šŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļø

When we take back control and are able to challenge negative thought patterns through thankfulness, we are able to help calm anxiety. Thinking of all we have and being grateful can also help to boost the mood of those feeling depressed.

Coach business example: Maybe you're having a bad day, a difficult client or a big project you're working on that is causing anxiety, take a minute to be grateful for what you do. Then get back at it refreshed and in a better mindset.

- Helps to improve physical health šŸ‹ļøā€ā™€ļø

Being grateful can help to strengthen the immune system, lower blood pressure, reduce symptoms of illness and make us less bothered by aches and pains. Also, when we're thankful for our bodies we are more likely to care for them.

Coach business example: Be an example! You can share with your clients how gratitude has helped you to better take care of your body and teach them how it can help them do the same.

- Increases social connections and resilience šŸ‘Æā€ā™€ļø

You will feel greater connections to others when you show them appreciation. You will also feel more satisfied with friends, family, school, community and yourself when you remind yourself to be thankful for them. It will also help you to bounce back from stressful events.

Coach business example: Show your clients just how thankful for them you are through small gifts, freebies, genuine conversations and recognition. It will only grow those relationships and increase your connections.

- You can overcome certain fears šŸ¦øā€ā™€ļø

Whenever you feel fear, try to find specific things you're grateful for instead. Being grateful will help to keep you grounded and fully present to what is happening now instead of being fearful of the future. Choose gratitude over fear to ease the stress.

Coach business example: When you're thankful, it can only increase your confidence and willingness to find more things to be thankful for. Go to the coach event, jump on the zoom call, increase your network and talk to more people!
